Matasuna Records’ first 45 drop of the new year is a double slice of Afro-Latin heat in the form of two Renegades Of Jazz remixes – and if you know Renegades Of Jazz, you know these will be a little bit special. It’s not actually the first time on vinyl, or even on 45, for the A-side – ROJ’s blistering b-boy mix of Brownout by Texan outfit, Brownout. This originally saw light of day on a ltd. ParisDjs/ Kept Records vinyl collab. that the monkey reported on in 2013 and still sounds fresh and just as likely to cause a dancefloor power surge now. On the flip, things finish (somewhat ironically) with a remix of a track named Comencemos by L.A.’s Jungle Fire – itself a cover of Fela Kutis’ Ginger Baker-powered Let’s Start. This is a first time on vinyl affair, however, and sees ROJ layer on the Afro-funk elements for rhythmic elevation that you imagine even Mr Baker might be rather impressed with.
