STALLY & THE BREADWINNERS/ SKINSHAPE: Riddim Box Dub/ Soul Groove (2013)

Brand new label Horus Records pop their release cherry with this double (or more accurately, dub-ble) A-side 45. It’s always useful being able to spot talent if you’re putting together a debut with which to make your name and so it is that the eye of Horus (sorry) fell upon Stally & The Breadwinners whose Riddim Box Dub was recorded on reel-to-reel tape for that authentic 70s Jamaican dub flavour at the Bakery House Studio in Stockport. This one’s all about the Breadwinners laying down the riddim while Stally wafts some lazy tenor sax over the top for that complete the tropical vibe. On the flip, Skinshape is none other than joint label boss Will Horus (a.k.a. Will Dorey) himself who makes an rather good fist of things with the aid of singer Anina on Soul Groove a super mellow slab of sweet wah-wah-led dub soul.
