After something of a break, the latest 45 from Markey Funk’s Delights label is The In Sound Company’s follow-up to ’22’s rather good Silk & Gunpowder/ Our Tin Can Rocket 45 with the frankly even better Spaceman Spiff b/w Stunt Double. ‘Pyschsploitation’ anyone? Of course you want some of this comics-referencing double groove monster! A-side Spaceman Spiff is apparently a tribute to the alter ego of Calvin of Calvin & Hobbes fame and delivers fuzzed-up, mod-era-influenced space funk that provides a worthy sequel of sorts to Our Tin Can Rocket. Heady stuff as that is, B-side Stunt Double possibly tops it with its retro-futuristic crime-funk chase theme. I’ll have a pint of what they’re drinking please barman!
