SKEEWIFF: Spanish Flea (Vinyl 7″)

SKEEWIFF: Spanish FleaWhat are the chances of Skeewiff returning to the label on which they were one of the original artists with a fresh example of a dance music genre that they were one of the original artists to establish? Pretty strong the monkey would say. The label is Jalapeno, the genre is party breakbeats (especially if featuring sixties samples) and the track is their reboot of Herb Alpert & His Tijuana Brass Band’s Spanish Flea which is available on limited vinyl 7″ as well as digital and streaming. Cue the musical equivalent of swirls of primary colours and dancefloors all doing their best impressions of the Austin Powers Goldmember opening scene dance. Yes, I know – the track for that was Quincey Jones’ Soul Bossa Nova – but the vibe’s much the same. Turns out the flipside of the wax will be the Wiffs’ version of Exclusive Blend by library music don Keith Mansfield and that this is merely the first in a projected series of Skeewiff remixing their favourite library music nuggets.
(Out now (digital)/ Wax 2 June on Jalapeno Records)
