It’s not just the new animated Vomitspit video that’s doing the rounds prior to the twentieth anniversary vinyl release of DOOM’s critically acclaimed MM..Food LP later this week, there’s also Madlib’s remix of One Beer too. It was of course Madlib who produced the original version (one of only three tracks on the album not produced by DOOM himself – the other two being Potholderz and Con Queso produced by Count Bass D and PNS respectively) which was originally slated to appear on the DOOM/ Madlib collab. LP Madvillainy but ultimately never made the cut when the pair decided it didn’t fit stylistically. As it transpires, the original version of One Beer was then released by Stones Throw on 45 as a freebie with 1000 copies of Madvillainy before DOOM subsequently included it on MM..Food. And what’s interesting about that is, the sales link for said 45 on the Stones Throw website mentions that Madlib had already tried to remix One Beer prior to Madvillainy‘s release so it would fit but the results ‘were a little too drunk’. Could it be that that remix and this remix are one and the same? Certainly this is a woozy wonder.
