Back in 2023 Fort Knox Five dropped a collab. with K+Lab featuring Jungle Brothers’ Afrika Baby Bam on the mic for Krafty Kuts Bass Funk Vol. 5. And ‘bass-funk’ it very much was featuring the buzzsaw synth bass typical of the genre. Fast forward two years and the FK5 crew, encouraged by the last time their opened their vaults to the remixers (also in 2023), are doing it again. Step forward German production handyman Jayl Funk who jailbreaks the Fort Knox original and immediately jettisons that synth bass for something rather more old school and organic-sounding. Indeed as the PR points out, if you weren’t in the know you might assume the remix was the original and the original the remix. Jayl Funk then – turning things on their head and coming out on top!
