THE AGGROLITES: Musical Muse

The countdown to the release of The Aggrolites’ seventh studio LP Super Atomic continues apace and new single Musical Muse marks another step nearer to the early June album release. This one provides a counterpoint to the dancefloor energy of previous single Till The Wheels Fall Off with something more in the tradition of mellower cuts like Fire Girl. It seems the track is a musical tribute to a personification of whatever force it is that keeps singer Jesse Wagner writing music. He says of it that it felt like the words were being given to me hence the lyric “You write for me the sweetest song.” Aggrolites fans who are also readers of classical Ancient Greek myth, might speculate that said personification is in fact Euterpe – the muse of song (not to mention elegiac poetry) but me and the other two also speculate that most Aggrolites fans are grateful after seven years just to finally have some new Aggro material and doubly grateful that the band’s ‘dirty reggae template (American retro-soul tinged version of Trojan reggae – especially stuff by Symarip) still sounds in such ridiculously rude health.
