THE AGGROLITES: Till The Wheels Fall Off

The monkey was starting to wonder if there would ever be any new Aggrolites material given the epic wait since the last flurry of studio material from 2018’s Reggae Now sessions but as suddenly as a new T Bird & the Breaks LP appeared last week here is news not only of a new single – Till The Wheels Fall Off, which dropped on Friday, but an LP to follow in April entitled Super Atomic! If you’ve been following the band on social media, you’ll know they hardly been slack – apparently touring constantly in the years since the last album. And that includes recently as the backing band for moon-stomping legend Roy Ellis of Symarip – arguably the 1960s progenitors of The Aggros ‘dirty reggae’ sound. And in case you’re wondering, the wheels most definitely haven’t fallen off that sound, with singer Jesse Wagner sounding as soul-gritty as ever, Roger Rivas’ organ grooving like a reborn Jackie Mittoo and the rhythm section tighter than a rudeboy’s suit trousers. Altogether now – what they singing? Dirty Reggae! What they playing? Dirty reggae! That’s right.
