SOUL FLIP EDITS 19: Hard To Handle (UMBO Edit)/ Private Number (DEL GAZEEBO Edit) (Vinyl 7″)

…And here’s the second of today’s sureshot Del Gazeebo-associated releases in the form of the Soul Flip 19 vinyl 7″. As with its two immediate predecessors, one track is by a guest producer – in this case Umbo who returns after his appearance on Soul Flip 17. On SF19, he’s applied massive JB pressure to Otis Redding’s Hard To Handle taking the funky soul original firmly into bouncing breakdance territory with the addition of that Clyde Stubblefield drum sample and an extended DJ-friendly intro and outro that take the track length to over four minutes. On the other side of the platter, DG goes a little deeper with Judy Clay & William Bell’s soul duet Private Number flipping it with heavier drums and extending the intro and outro in a masterclass on how to do an dancefloor-geared edit that remains highly sensitive to and stylistically compatible with the original. It’s so good in fact that if you have any remixing requirements, you’ll probably be after – well – his private number.
