CALL SENDER: Nu Blu feat. RIAN PETERS/ Skynet

Hot on the heels of Call Sender’s Golden Langur album from the summer comes new single Nu Blu feat. Rian Peters and (apparently digital only) B-side Skynet showcasing two different sides of the band. The first of these is actually the most recent string to the band’s bow – that of delivering smooth neo-soul. Nu Blu follows the LP’s Lucid Paradise-featuring The Way Home and the Andre Cruz-featuring The Night I Fell in this – especially the latter in finding a vocalist who does a neat turn in Marvin-cum-Pharrell-ish falsetto though arguably is better than either. B-side Skynet meanwhile plays to the Call Sender faithful in providing the sort of cinematic psych-funk that characterised album number one and can still be found at times on its successor. This one pitches a stealthy groove punctuated by occasional sci-fi FX and bass swells – exactly the sort of unsettling groove that should accompany an AI about to become sentient. Also comes with an instro of Nu Blu.
