PULPFUSION: Pain & Hurt (2013)

A nice bit of downtempo breakbeat soul, Pain & Hurt is one of the standouts on the just-released Modern Jazz LP from Swiss producer Pulpfusion – a man more usually known for inflicting damage with sledgehammer breakbeat assaults. Featuring a very easy-on-the-ear female vocal pitched somewhere between horny and sweetly heartbroken, this might be about the singer’s lovelorn heartache but there’s every chance of it soothing your own. Quincy Jointz clatters up the break and increases the tempo to engender a switch from head-nod to foot-tap on the first remix before Daytoner finishes everything up by heading nonchalantly off in a slow-mo dub-disco direction…
