THE WORLDSTYLERS: Adventures With… (2015)

Adventures With The WorldstylersSavages Y Suefo’s alter ego The Worldstylers goes from strength to strength with the arrival of debut LP . Anyone who caught Niles Philips massive remix of Gimme One More last year will know to expect plenty of interesting antics from this Budapest-based breaks outfit and this album is unlikely to disappoint. Every bit as varied as the name The Worldstylers would suggest, Adventures With… takes in crazy gypsy breaks (Folkfloor), slo-mo electro blues bumps (Baby You Don’t Know), carnival-esque Moombah gear (Fiesta Y Alegria), atmospheric downtempo-isms (Rabbi’s Groove), straight up hip-hop (like opener Get High) and – ahem – gypsy house like Gypup!

Highlights include the mellow original electro blues of Gimme One More, stop-starty slap-bass powered, Jew’s harp bump Broken Drum, the aforementioned Rabbi’s Groove and the also aforementioned Get High. This last features original gentleman rhymer and chap hop titan, Professor Elemental who takes part here in a number presumably named after the state of mind attained only after imbibing prolific amounts of tea. A drink made from leaves only obtained by travelling far from Europe having styled half way around the world, if you will. Which thematic full circle brings us to a close.
