Next from Matasuna Records in the 45 stakes is this twin-spin Afro-disco 7″ featuring Voodoocuts edits of two original mirrorball-era cuts by South African outfit The Movers. The tracks in question are a pneumatic edit and re-arrangement of the pumping uptempo Soweto Disco on the one side with the slightly less intense – but still dancefloor gold – of Shanana on the flip. Despite The Movers’ trailblazing status as South African musicians combining local music with international styles, the emphasis is rather more on the disco than the Afro on both original tracks and arguably even more so on these edits which will no doubt facilitate their seamless integration into any disco set, sliding in there like Travolta on ice. Or perhaps that should that be snow…
