THE BONGOLIAN: Master Blaster Tendulkar

I hope you’re ready for The Bongolian’s next LP, Indian Summer Of Love, scheduled to drop later this week following August single The Burning Man Of Calcutta. Surely there couldn’t be time to squeeze in one more single in the remaining few days, though? But there can! And it’s the bonkers Moog-drenched psych-funk of Master Blaster Tendulkar – apparently named after India’s ‘God of Cricket’ Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar. The first ‘over’ features swirling and mystical Wurlitzer organ atop super-funky drums, followed by a second and longer over in which octopus-armed, multi-instrumentalist bandleader, Nasser Bouzida brings his Moog into play. A brief session break follows before what is initially a Hammond and subsequently a Moog over and then another break during which there’s a brief sitar streak, followed by more organ insanity. This being The Bongolian, there’s also time for an extended bongo breakdown, more organ insanity, a false outro, a moment when things briefly threaten to turn into Abba instrumental Arrival and finally the mystical flute-led outro proper. Howzat!?
