It’s all aboard the Spanish soul train as Matasuna Records gear up to release a vinyl 7″ of two cuts from the autumn’s album-length collaboration Dejalo Ír by Barcelona-based outfit The Blaxound and singer John Vermont. That’ll be No Es Por Ti and Que Mas Te Da then – two relaxed slices of jangly retro soul and all part and parcel of a long-gestating project from The Blaxound’s Marta Roman to record a classic soul LP with all songs sung in Spanish. What about a video for No Es Por Ti perhaps? Maybe a retro split-screen affair so we can watch the respective day of our Marta and John unfold? They jog (she powers through the woods; he’s knackered on the waterside), they have breakfast (she’s all avocado and cream cheese on toast; he likes a fry-up), they clean the house (she goes at it old school with a brush; he’s got mini R2D2 to do his) and so the contrasts go until evening when it’s time to meet at the studio where they are very much on the same page. Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy. A bit like the music really.
