Not for the first time today, here’s news of a vintage-style soul 45 single – this time from new Manchester outfit The 7:45s – The Way That I Love You b/w Too Little Too Late. On the former, the music’s all laid-back horns and piano over a gently rolling rhythm section with the band drafting in singer Martin Connor to regale us with the tale of his heart being broken while the latter is an uptempo Motown-style stomper. Taking their name from the two ways to refer to the classic vinyl single format (rather than one of the monkey’s least favourite times for the alarm clock to go off), the band (or perhaps more accurately, collective) were formed by bassist and songwriter Sam Flynn, having been inspired by the likes of labels from Motown to Big Crown.
(Out now digital/ Vinyl out March on LRK Records)
