Apparently this is the first single in four years from Japanese band The Rude Pressures but if they do another one as good as this collaboration with Takako – the singer of The Drops, the monkey won’t mind the wait. Penned by Takako herself, Heartache is a classic slice of bitterwsweet rocksteady in a Phyllis Dillon-esque stylee which will definitely find itself on the monkey’s best cuts of 2024. Over on the B-side things are slightly more uptempo on a rocksteady cover of Penny & The Quarters cut ‘You And Me’ from Ryan Gosling flick ‘Blue Valentine’ which also works well. Better jump if you want a copy though, import copies are slim pickings in the UK – even info. is slim on the ground about this and weirdly there’s no embeddable audio of the A-side at all though there is a full-on video for the B-side – see below. If you want to cop a snippet of the A-side (and it really is that good) try the audio for Juno where the 45 has now sold out.
