Nothing for ages and then two come along at once. Oh sorry – that’s buses not trains isn’t it? Still – not one but two Multitrack Reworks 12″s from Smoove for you this June as Vols. 12 and 13 simultaneously pull into Remix Central station on either side of the main platform. First up number 12 – four tracks, funkier than 13 and thus more up the monkey’s street. Sorry, ‘railway line.’ Getting the Smoove edit treatment here are Rufus Thomas’s funky soul scorcher Itch And Scratch, Pleasure’s saucy Bouncy Lady, The Isley Brothers’ For The Love Of You and Carla Thomas & Pervis Staples’ I’m Trying. Best cut for the monkey’s money? The last of the four – now with the drums pushed wayyy to the front – a monster slab of drum-break powered soul. On Vol. 13 we’re in more familiar late 70s disco-boogie-soul territory with revisions of two Rufus & Chaka Khan cuts – I’m Dancing For You and Heaven Bound both now – er – bound for the dancefloor. Well, admittedly the former already was but much more so now. As if you’d expect to find our Smoove anywhere else!
