SKITZ & JOE BURN feat. LAID BLAK: Red

SKITZ & JOE BURN feat. LAID BLAK: Red Skitz and Joe Burn see Red on the new reggae-hip-hop rework of Laid Blak’s now eleven year old original. Not because they’re angry mind – quite the opposite in fact. Indeed, I’d be surprised if they could muster even a sigh of annoyance if there’s any truth in the prodigious extent of herbal inhalation that the lyrics are boasting about. A suitable topic you might think, given both the musical and herbally recreational heritage of a certain city which looms large in the background of all concerned here. That’ll be Bristol then, from where Laid Blak hail and Skitz spent many of his early days while Joe Burn – well, our Joe will be Skitz’s nephew and a man who has been known to release stuff on Bristol label Greenbrick Records. And while the release date might have missed Bristol’s very own St Paul’s Carnival, it’s in good time for Notting Hill. Also comes with Sudley’s nosebleed jungle remix if you’re that way inclined.
(Out 21 August on Dragon Drop)
