Band most likely to, Say She She, drop another 45 – a Christmas-themed one entitled Purple Snowflakes – and it’s another cover (to follow their Jackson Sisters one from the summer) of a 1965 Marvin Gaye cut no less. Not that audiences in ’65 would’ve recognised the title since the version Tamla actually released was called Pretty Little Baby and featured Gaye singing altered lyrics with his other version not seeing the light of day until the release of a 1993 Motown Christmas compilation. Say She She aren’t having any of that though – they’ve plumped for the song’s original title and dialled the psychedelia right back up to eleven – to great effect. Over on the flip you’ll find the first Christmas song actually written by the band themselves – dreamy slowie This Wintertime. Bet you can’t guess what colour vinyl this is coming out on?
