RUCKUS ROBOTICUS (feat. ARNAÉ BATSON): Hit Or Miss

Blimey, the last time the monkey posted about something from Ruckus Roboticus was ten years ago! Mind you, it’s the first time the monkey posted something about Ruckus Roboticus thirteen years ago that really stands out in the memory because it was a massive funk-soul collabo with the legendary Spanky Wilson – Thank God It’s Friday (T.G.I.F.). And it’s in not a million miles from this vein that RR returns on Bomb Strikes at the end of this month though with another massive banger. This time it’s a rework of laid-back supercool Odetta funk classic Hit Or Miss. The loping funky rhythm of the original has been replaced with a simpler more twenty-first century-friendly drum break while Odetta’s unmistakable original vocals have been supplanted by the mighty pipes of gospel singer Arnaé Watson who proves once again that it’s all about gospel training if you really want to nail that funk/soul vibe. Also comes in a ‘Stripped Back’ version which emphasises the clappy Gospel part of the rhythm. Boom!
(Out 29 September on Bomb Strikes)
