PINK BUTTER feat. T3 of SLUM VILLAGE: Can We Go Back

Can We Go Back is the debut single from Sweden’s Pink Butter. Fans of both jazzy improvisation and J Dilla, the four-piece have managed to not just conjure up a decent jazzy hip-hop beat out of nothing using live instrumentation (that’ll be the improv. then) but in a style familiar to fans of Mr Yancey. And who better to rap on that than Dilla’s former Slum Village band mate T3. Blimey – this is like a Slum Village wet dream! How apt then that T3 asks Can We Go Back (sans question mark) though it transpires that he’s less bothered about whether he and Pink Butter can successfully channel the spirit of 90s hip-hop (they most certainly can) than wanting to pull a reverse ferret after seeing the state of the world in 2025 and head back to the safer pastures of former times. They’re not the only ones. Vinyl LP Smoked Pink follows shortly.
