If you’ve had the misfortune to catch the original Maniac 2000 by Mark McCabe – the ‘party classic’ that spent more than two months of the first year of the new millenium at number one on the Irish singles chart – you’ll know it was the absolute acme of pop techno and every bit as hideous as that sounds. Enter Johnnypluse 26 years later to re-imagine said abortion as a slice of hip-hop from the same era and – well – it’s quite the transformation. I guess you could say the story has come real far – twenty-six years later and here we are. But what the real heads want to know is (given the lack of MC accreditation) – was there an AI co-pilot or did JP do this the old fashioned way?
