JAMES TAYLOR QUARTET: Only Messin’ EP (Vinyl 7″)

90s Hammond-funk kingpin James Taylor has a new release out with his quartet and it’s this, the Only Messin’ EP a vinyl 7″ only release that both draws from and adds to the rich heritage of funky library music. And what JTQ are messin’ with on this one is switching up the funk template by adding an extra Stones-style rock guitar into a mix which already includes JB’s-style rhythms, horns and…funk guitar. Yep – two guitars. Can he make it work? 43 years writing, recording and performing (including at least twenty library music LPs) says he can and these ears tend to agree.
