Bombstrikes keep up the quality pressure and the label’s recent drift over the last year or so towards a less wobbly breakbeat sound with this drop from Russia’s The Funk Fury – Keep On Lovin’. The title track employs a chipmunk soul vocal over a relaxed mid-tempo beat featuring horns, clavinet and, yes, synth bass while Tribe Of Disco brings the drums on the intro and then settles into a clattery island disco vibe. What you really want this for though is the middle cut – That’s The Funk. One for the b-boys, spaghetti western orchestral voices swiftly give way to syncopated rhythms featuring a prominent Jimmy Castor-ish double hi-hat hit and JB shout and grunt samples. Now that is the funk.
