DONNOYA DRAKE: Rocksteady Boy (Vinyl 7″)

Donnoya Drake (last seen on the Original Gravity label with an inspired early reggae cover of Yazoo synth-pop cut Only You) is back with, I suspect, what could quite possibly the first in a run of hot 45 singles in much the same way as the label has fostered the talents of Junior Dell. This one’s entitled Rocksteady Boy (which appears to be an original cut) and manages to perfectly nail the sound of early reggae precursor rocksteady, delivering a track that Phyllis Dillon or Marcia Griffiths and the like would have been proud to drop, back in the day. Comes in instro version on the flip courtesy of Woodfield Road Allstars. Er – you’re still here? What you waiting for? Pre-order. Now!
(Out 25 July on Original Gravity Records)
