It’s not immediately clear how the monkey managed to miss out on DJ DSK’s DNA Edits Vol.5 but here Vol. 6 is already – and not that long after last summer’s Vol.4. That’s quite a feat I can tell you, given how hard Covid has hit vinyl pressing schedules! If you’ve caught previous efforts though, you’ll know that the DSK name is a hallmark of edit quality and that DNA edits have ‘sureshot’ written in their – well – DNA. This time around, it’s Funkadelic and Patrice Rushen getting the 45 remix treatment. The former’s (Not Just) Knee Deep is no longer just a Funkadelic track but – er – knee deep in a heavier beat and with the band’s five-minute-plus track length leanings trimmed to a svelte four minutes or so. On the flip, Patrice Rushen’s Remind Me also gets a trim and some beat augmentation and, as with the other side will certainly assist dancefloor crowds to recollect why they go clubbing once Covid rules are relaxed.
