Another big drop from Original Gravity Records, and not for the first time this weekend (if you were paying attention yesterday) for here is a Curtis Baker & The Bravehearts’ four-track 45 Wang Dang Doodle to go alongside the Latin Fever Vol. 2 EP 45. Nothing Latin here though, this is strickly 60s R&B type territory with organ-led groover Harem Girl kicking things off and liable to whip up a storm at
northern soul gigs. The title track is bar-room stomping cover of Howlin Wolf’s classic, er, bar-room stomp with closer La Cachette delivering equally gritty dancefloor blues – albeit in instrumental mode – with harmonica and guitar taking it in turns for the topline. Best of all though is, Shake It Don’t Break It, a Mohawks-ish organ-led funky instrumental with a blues chord progression and grandstanding sax.(Pre-order now; ships March on Original Gravity Records)
