“We’re rolling along with a new release scheduled almost monthly now – with lots in the pipeline,” came the words from the horse’s (or at least Mr Si Cheeba’s) mouth in his latest promo release email – and he says he’s got a long way to go before he can rival the output of Original Gravity Records! Whatever the truth of it, there’s certainly no slowing down Echo Chamber Recordings’ output and the latest bit of action is this monstah 45 featuring Scratch You Waa! b/w Hotta Fire from Cheeba’s Reggae Sound Boys. Cheeba’s Reggae Sound Boys? That’ll mean a heavy Jamaican dancehall influence on this new 45 series then? Certainly will (as if you couldn’t guess from the label art), the mission being to mash up sixties and seventies reggae sources with fat breaks inna new stylee. Which is very much what happens on A-side Scratch You Waa! Here, the ‘Boys re-up on an old LP-only cut that used to get regular spins at Manchester’s Cheeba-Cheeba night back in the early 90s and make sure it’s fighting fit for 2024. On the B-side meanwhile, the dubbier Hotta Fire provides DJs with enough bass weaponry to cause internal organ rearrangement and thus a second means on a single 7″ to get things tun up!
