CARWYN ELLIS & RIO 18 feat. ELAN RHYS: Hei Ti

Now then, what’s this – pumping analogue disco beat, post-punk-style bass and a Lipps Inc, Funky Town-style synthesizer motif? Oh – and female vocals. That’s not English though is it? And that title Hei Ti – wait – is that… Welsh?! for ‘Hey you?’ Man, the last time I heard anything with a funky rhythm sung in Welsh it was Tebot Piws’ psych-funk-folk nugget Mae Rhywun Wedi Dwyn Fy Nhrwyn and that was nothing like this. Still, there’s no faulting the groove here – this one’s funky in anyone’s language – including that of bodies moving on the dancefloor. Pack this in your bag and punters’ll think they’re in tir y bêl ddrych yn y stiwdio 54! Banger!
