CANNON & MIRRORBALL: Black Rhythm Rap/ Makin Time (Vinyl 7″)

CANNON & MIRRORBALL: Black Rhythm Rap/ Makin Time (Vinyl 7So successful was Cannon & Mirrorball’s last set of cut n paste disco antics for the Disco Bits label that they’ve been invited back again to do another 45 – Black Rhythm Rap b/w Makin Time. The latter cuts up Loleatta Holloway’s 1980s hit Love Sensation for a funky nu-disco excursion and in doing so reclaims the track as a sample source from the clammy hands of 90s Italo-house casualties Black Box. For the monkey though, it’s all about A side Black Rhythm Rap which takes Age Of Consent’s gay disco-rap anthem Fight Back, chops the opening bars into a hook that pays tribute to the place and culture that gave birth to hip-hop and pairs it with as pumping a funky disco beat as anyone in 1979 had a right to expect thus creating a pan-sexual dancefloor sureshot. Altogether now: “From the streets of New York town came black rhythm rap; funky sound/ From the streets of New York town came black rhythm rap it’s spreadin’ around.”
(Out 16 September on Disco Bits)
