[RATING: 5] And so it is that Badboe’s label Breakbeat Paradise Recordings brings back the funk (of the nu- and ghetto- varieties) for Vol. 2. By way of showing that this is a drop that means business we open with the return of Funktomas who provides a master-class in how to make ghetto funk with this pumping and downright nasty wobble edit of DJ Kool’s Let Me Clear My Throat. J-Sound continues the wobble with a little ghetto-disco De La Soul before we enter the house of beat-doctors Phibes who have the Flirtations getting peak time saucy with Flip Mode Squad. Conte Crux comes next chopping up Kool Keith with – ahem – Will Smith over a disco beat and Ad N Kuts continue the disco theme with Disco Bombs which is more or less to disco what nuclear weaponry is to firework night. We close however with Mr Bristow and the effortless cool of a super laidback hip-hop booty with vintage NYC vocals – “The rhyme’s funky fresh and the beat is strong.” Raise yo hands up indeed!
