Right, we’re into December so it’s time for those Christmas bootleg bells to ring out once more as Breakbeat Paradise drops the fourth volume of seasonal party breakbeat fare – er – Christmas Bootleg Bells Vol. 4. It is a slightly lighter box of delights than in previous years – eight cuts this time to the previous two volumes’ thirteen apiece – but since it’s mostly wobble bass fat that’s been trimmed it’s probably no great loss. Thus clustering around your decks with boughs of holly-themed beats are SuckaSide, Badboe, Umbo, Pecoe, Wiccatron & Sonale, Morlack, Dal Platinum and Towlie DJ. The latter is the odd one out, Driving Home for the season in a dnb stylee while Morlack reliably turns up a bit of festive DC go-go on Merry Xmas Baby. Both Dal Platinum and SuckaSide look to a hip-hop Christmas, the former re-imagining Run DMC around their respective hearths in Hollis in a manner more chilled than you might expect while, the latter get funkier than you might expect with Snoop putting the ho ho ho into Yuletide pimp talk! Of the remainder, Badboe introduces hip-hop to funky breaks under the mistletoe while Wiccatron & Sonale do the same with swing and breaks, Umbo spins a tinsel-wrapped mirrorball and Pecoe digs deep into his sack like the Funky Santa that he is.
