There’s no shortage of 45 musical mod-action this fortnight it seems with Big Boss Man’s new single following The Guy Hamper Trio’s cover of Mary Mary in fairly quick succession. This one’s called Lambretta Boogaloo and is – as the title implies – an uptempo Latin Boogaloo tribute to the iconic scooter marque. Turns out the track was written for the 34th Euro Lambretta Jamboree and went down so well the band decided to press a limited vinyl 7″ run of 250 copies. What to put on the flip though? How about previously unreleased Northern soul-style organ-led instro Starstream Sorrow with a verse melody that is something of a tribute to the bit before the bridge of Apache Apache? Not to mention a name which will greatly amuse Lambretta owners. And a video? Maybe our heroes dressed in mod-approved original series Star Trek uniforms astride vintage Lambrettas accompanied by go-go dollybirds Pussy Meow Meow and Tara M Granger on Hungerford Common complete with fully-clothed but nonetheless Benny Hill-adjacent chase (I shit thee nay!) at 0:53? Yep – that should do it.
