Dynamite MC displays an elephant-like power of recall on Memories, the new one from Bazza Ranks which is essentially a irie dancehall pastiche of (and homage to) Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth’s classic early 90s boom-bap adventure T.R.O.Y. But what’s old Dyna reminiscing about from back in the day? ‘Marijuana’ – well, you sensed he might…’good times’ – glad to hear it…’knife crime’ – sadly it does happen…and…’a legal lumberjack’. Well of course. We all had to deal with legal lumberjacks back in the day. Alright – we all know that lyrics sometimes get misheard. I suppose it’s possible that an initial vowel has been elided and he’s singing about an ‘illegal lumberjack.’ Sadly, I suspect we’ll never know – but that’s hardly the point when you’re ‘out on the floor.’ And I do predict that that is where this will take people.
