Back in the day, the Music Of Life label released some seminal UK hip-hop. Fast forward to the present and the brand new Stay On Target label has acquired the rights to remix and release some of these lost classics. And here’s there opening salvo – the remixes of Asher D (no, not that one) and Daddy Freddy’s Raggamuffin Hip-hop which first dropped in 1988. And you thought hip-hop/ reggae hybrids were a relatively recent innovation. L.A. dnb bandit 6 Blocc gets first dibs at the acapella and Cool Hand Flex & Effektz continue the dnb action. What you want this for though is DJ Spatts‘ (of Criminal Minds) stripped back hip-hop beast. Available on limited wax next month with digital to follow…
(Out 27 September (vinyl) (pre-order HERE) and 23 October (digital) on Stay On Target)
