The Record Kicks label continue their unerring knack for signing talent in Tiwayo whose new single – the second on RK to be lifted from forthcoming LP Outsider – is Up For Soul. An uptempo funky soul cut it showcases the voice for which Tiwayo has been nicknamed ‘The Young Old.’ It’s not hard to see why Black Pumas’ Adrian Quesada was galvanised when he heard Tiwayo’s demos and hauled him over to Austin, TX for recording. Mind you, you’d have thought after two highly-rated LPs prior to that he’d already be on the road to glory though it seems that wasn’t the case. Still, the Parisian is back in the game now – check the video below of him playing the track live at Electric Deluxe Records in Austin. My favourite bit is when the candle on the organ player’s organ falls towards the keys during – you guessed it – the organ solo. Could all have been a cautionary tale about filming a live performance but this guy’s so un-phased he could probably conduct brain surgery in the middle of stampeding cattle. The Outsider LP follows on 10 April.
