For here are Night Owls’ Dan Ubick (The Lions/ Connie Price & The Keystones), Dave Wilder The Lions/ Connie Price & The Keystones) and Roger Rivas (The Aggrolites) as The Mad Geezers – albeit joined by sticksman Oliver Charles from Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals for new single Genius Of Love – one of their occasional forays into early Jamaican dancehall. And who better to pay vocal tribute to the likes of U-Roy, Sister Nancy and Barrington Levy on such a cut than Ranking Joe an Destani Wolf? You recognise that title too don’t you? It’s a cover…wait a minute…it’s on the tip of your tongue…it’s Tom Tom Club who did the original isn’t it? It certainly is – and on which they paid tribute to multiple funk and reggae artists – though this version is bassier, more fluid and just, well, more groovy. Welcome to the clubhouse everybody!
