Calling all mods! The Guy Hamper Trio consisting of Guy Hamper (a.k.a. James Taylor’s mate Billy Childish), Hamper’s missus Juju and drummer Wolf Howard have been busy knocking out instrumentals since 2009 (some of them featured on MB) and on this latest drop they’ve covered one of The Monkees biggest tracks – a cut which is also close to hip-hop heads’ hearts due to both its much-sampled monumental drum break and for the fact that it inspired the Run DMC version. It is of course Mary Mary – here represented in a funky Hammond-led sixties mod-beat stylee. Not enough mod action for you? Flip this bad boy over for the rather more rock-oriented (though still featuring some scorching Hammond) Type 2 Error on the B-side. Did I mention the Hammond action on both cuts comes courtesy of none other than Mr James Taylor himself? No? Well, it does!
