So this did actually drop a couple of weeks ago but hey – with a title like Cold Blood and sounding like it does, Temporary Blessings’ new single is much more of a Halloween track, right? You’re damn right it’s right! So what does it sound like? Well if the PR is to be believed, it’s a sinister brew of film noir OSTs, library music and cinematic soul that summons the sort of score featured on 1960’s European horror films. It’s not a bad summary but that saxophone is way more reminiscent of 80s erotica. Blimey. As it happens, those string stabs had me picturing that scene at the Theatre Des Vampires in Interview With A Vampire (yes, I know that’s a 90s film with a mid-nineteenth century milieu) when a naked female innocent is shoved out onto an empty stage in front of an audience and slowly advanced upon and finally smothered by vampires pretending to be actors pretending to be vampires. Temporary Blessings is a new instrumental outfit inspired by vintage French and Italian film scores and features members of both Surprise Chef and Karate Boogaloo and led by Melbourne trumpeter Liam McGorry.
The band’s debut LP Sumbisori drops the middle of next month.
