The start of the monkey’s year seems to have been characterised by two things thus far: 1) – a near constant onslaught of rain and 2) a near constant onslaught of dope cheeky versions and edits. Only one of these is good and it’s not the rain. Obviously. Which brings us to yet more cheeky version/edit joy that it’s Smoove’s turn to shower down on us once again in the form of new 45 – Wack 28. B-side Scandalized Lifetime, partially rebuilds Sugar Bear’s Talking Heads-sampling ’89 cut Don’t Scandalize Mine keeping that track’s Eric B & Rakim sample and adding extra Talking Heads samples while ditching Sugar Bear himself. So far so groovy – but the even more crowd-pleasing A-side energy knocks that action into a cocked hat as Salt N Pepa Push It Good over a beat sliced out of a seminal James Brown track. Papa done got a brand new bag!
