There’s double Eric B & Rakim remix action from Berry Geordie here as Smoove applies his production magic to both Paid In Full and In The Ghetto. Famously remixed by Coldcut at the time of release, Paid In Full gets a brand new but 80s-era-sensitive re-work on this 45 as Paid In Pounds with Smoove seamlessly splicing in extended vocal samples from Dennis Edwards & Siedah Garrett’s Don’t Look Any Further – the sample source of the track’s bassline. More butter-slick than the Coldcut version, this is no less dope if more ladies-night-friendly. In The Ghetto meanwhile appears as Ghetto (Smoove 2026 Rework) with things somewhat lower key than on the original with a stripped-back, late night feel. Gone are the irritating house-music piano and synths to be replaced by a minimal moody Rhodes motif and a way low in the mix clavinet. Nice!
