Multi-track Reworks Vol. 8, the latest in Smoove’s series of 12″ edits, pulls into the station shortly with some premium rolling stock behind it. First off, a seven minute version of Wilson Pickett’s funkiest number, Engine Number 9, that’s been refitted to ensure maximum drums and bass. That’ll keep the steam comin’ out the stack. After that we’re back in Smoove’s disco boogie comfort zone with a re-version of Cheryl Lynn’s Got To Be Real on which what you find-ah (among other things) is an extended percussive instrumental intro. and additional percussion prettymuch throughout despite this being slightly shorter than Lynn’s original version. Oh – and if you buy the 12 inch rather than the digital version you’ll also cop an extended dubby, blissed-out re-rub of George Benson’s cover of Heatwave’s The Star Of The Story. What’s not to love?
