Smoove’s at it again on Multi-Track Reworks Vol. 10, a 12″ featuring inspired re-flips of Steely Dan’s Peg, MJ’s Baby Be Mine and This Time I’m Going To Try It My Way by Joseph Wood – or possibly someone a bit more shadowy – given the drum break. And if you’re thinking – ‘My! That’s a lot of late seventies/ early eighties pop rock to be dealing with in one go even if it is remixed,’ you’ll need to factor in the hip-hop pedigree of all tracks concerned. The use of the first by De La Soul, the employment of the second by 2Pac and the manipulation of the third by a certain Bay Area head. Expect major redeployment and foregrounding of the drum breaks on all three cuts and prepare to be lifted by the slap bass on the first, the synth boogie bass on the second and the strings at the end of the third!
