PORFI JIMENEZ: Miami (Vinyl 7″)

If you caught either of Matasuna Records’ Phirpo Y Sus Caribes releases (last year’s Y Esa Pava Que?/ Pa’ Los Rumberos or 2021’s Comencemos b/w Mi Moooto) which between them saw four super-rare, lesser-known seventies Latin funk gems get a well deserved re-release (in the former’s case for the first time on 45!) – you’ll be all over this. Why? Because the man behind Phirpo Y Sus Caribes was Dominican-Venezuelan musician, producer and arranger Porfi Jimenez and Miami – originally released in 1971 – is yet more heavy Latin funk. The original hits hard from the off with a big horns vamp before resolving into a brisk uptempo groove. If that’s not enough for you though, Philly DJ/producer Retro Roland Riso adds even more drum-break punch while remaining sympathetic to the sound of the original. You know this isn’t going to hang around, right?
