It says here that on Chief Cornerstone, “MRKBH and Sadat X trade bars interweaving the concepts of fatherhood, mortality, integrity, and more while asserting themselves as cornerstones in their families and culture.” Is there a metaphor in the house? I think so! And while that ‘X’ in the billing might suggest the sound is going to be all newfanged this is actually a reliably solid and atmospheric boom-bap bump assisted in no small part by the presence of mic veteran Sadat X – once of legends Brand Nubian. Of course MRKBH’s capable flows and Rico James’s RZA-ish beat don’t hurt on that score either! This one is the first single from the upcoming collaboration EP (their second) between MRKBH & Rico James, entitled Righteous Gemstones Part 2.
