MAX NASECK: Monkey Part 2 (Vinyl 7″)

With Mad Geezers 45, Genius Of Love just out, F-Spot keep the musical impetus up with news of a single from a new signing – Los Angeles-based keyboardist/ composer Max Naseck. Apparently, he’s known for knocking out a Moog bassline with his left hand while delivering exquisite Wurlitzer funkiness with his right – shades of The Doors’ Ray Manzarek then – even if he’s not using a Rhodes and a Vox Continental! And so to the tracks of this first single from Naseck’s trio which are entitled Monkey Part 2 and, on the B-side, Lully. The former blends psychedelia, funk and soul in an uptempo disco-adjacent manner while the latter heads in a Khruangbin-meets-John Scofield direction. Blimey!
(Out 20 February on F-Spot Records)
