Here we are then, the third early-eighties dance-punk-influenced breakbeat powered single to be released from MadMadMad’s four-track EP titled Run dropping at the start of next month is Small Talk. And doesn’t this one sound like computers engaging in it? Or at least computers from the late nineties. Yup – it’s another MadMadMad cut whose other influence is nineties big beat – albeit at the more techno end of things. In fact this one’s a dead ringer for end-of-big-beat-era Chemical Brothers. “History goes in cycles, and we feel there’s a correlation with what happened a century ago, when everything was so chaotic and people had a hard time making sense of what was going on in the world,” reckons the band’s Benji. Yup – it’s almost like the world these days is split into two polarised groups of people and never the twain shall meet. And no, I’m not talking about those who dig breakbeats and those who don’t. Though this track might just go part way to establishing a rapprochement between the latter two tribes.
