If you haven’t Caught Up with the new single from Brooklyn singer-songwriter Johnny Burgos yet perhaps it’s time you did. Why? Well the last time he was on the monkey’s radar it was with last year’s early summer LP All I Ever Wonder on which he ranged across numerous styles from clasic to neo-soul via R&B, hip-hop, funk, reggae and even salsa. On the new single however we’re viewing life through a resoundingly retro lens and don’t it sound good – coming on like something in the Kelly Finnigan and Eamon-of-recent-releases ballpark. Warm and buttery, this is midtempo protest soul with a double-time beat to play while crusining around the hood, top down. Check the video shot in Red Hook below.
