BREAKBEAT PARADISE RECORDINGS: Badass Funk Vol. 2 (Vinyl 12Two years on from the heavyweight first installment, Breakbeat Paradise pulls Badass Funk Vol. 2 out of the bag. Returning for a second crack at the whip are Badboe (obvs. – it’s the man’s label!), B-Side, the two-man demolition team that is Breakbeat Junkie Vs DJP and DJ Roast Beatz whilst Ewan Hoozami, Ale Tosses, Turntill & Merlin and Morlack all put in a first appearance. First up
are Breakbeat Junkie & DJP who Step Up and show they are fam-i-ly with some Sugarhill/Sledge blending. Next is B-Side who hooks up with Kurnel MC for some original hip-hop business followed by that man Morlack who jacks the roof off the sucka with a P-funky reboot. Turntill & Merlin go a bit afro-90s with Dancing Mood, Badboe splices Royce Da 5′ 9″ with big horns, Roast Beats makes the pressure rise with a bass poppin’ and Mr Hoozami rocks more by chasing that ‘ol stone fox. Arguably the pick of the bunch though are Ale Tosses’ phat lowrider bump Same Old Thing which employs subby funk bass and an era-defining Meters vocal motif and the aforementioned Breakbeat Junkie vs DJP mash. All on vinyl 12″ of course!
(Out 25 May on Breakbeat Paradise)
